Holy Hotcakes Batman! A Splash of Ink is Five!

I was enjoying my family day stat holiday (thanks Canada) when I looked up at my calendar and saw that it was my blog anniversary today!  I also saw that A Splash of Ink is turning five today! That's shocking and amazing all at the same time. At first, I was just going do a measly recap post, but I said to myself Sunny, this is five years!!!! More celebration must happen! And so, I added in a giveaway...which you will have to read through all my regular recapping, before you get the details!

In the first few years of blogging it's easy to play the numbers game and compare yourself to other bloggers, but by now, I've settled in. There's still times when I cringe a bit seeing the blogs who have only been around for a year that have already surpassed my follower count, but honestly I'm happy with A Splash of Ink. I've found, especially this past year, that the more often I write posts that I think are meaningful and quality content, instead of just writing a post for the sake of writing a post, the better I feel about SOI.

And of course, I love it when people say nice things in the comments; that's always validating.

Most Popular Posts of Year Five (as decided by view count)

I always like going through the top ten posts each year because I honestly forget what I've written over the past year. It's also really interesting to see what people were looking at and sharing.

Some Highlights of the Year
A Splash of Ink has reached 116 GFC followers and 66 Bloglovin' followers.

I hosted my first ever link-up and people actually linked up! I held off for so long, because I was afraid that nobody would want to do the link-up, but I decided to take the plunge this year and do one on the topic of bookshelves. It went really well! Eleven people linked up! So thank you to everyone who was involved with that, and special thanks to Rachel (who I begged to link up first to get the ball rolling, tehe).

The second highlight took place right around the same time as the link-up, and it was the Readership Survey. I've always been driven by feedback, so seeing your responses was so meaningful to me. I just want to thank everyone who participated in that and for all of your kind and insightful thoughts.

I also started a new series on SOI that focuses on getting the most out of your camera. So far I've only done two posts, but I'm hoping to get more going on this series. I really felt like I had some knowledge to share on camera use, so it was excellent to see such a good response. You can read all of those posts here.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Another new series that I started was the Blogger Spotlight series in August 2015. This series interviewed other bloggers in order to give some insight into the blogger behind the blog and featured a different blogger every month. The fate of this series is still hanging in the balance, but I'm so grateful that many of you guys were interested. You can read all their interviews here.

Giveaway Time!
Okay, it's finally time to talk about the giveaway! This giveaway is open internationally as the prize is an Amazon e-giftcard to the Amazon website of your choice that is worth $15 in the Canadian dollar. I really wanted this giveaway to be for people who having been following for a long time or are new followers who are along for the ride with A Splash of Ink. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments!

So, here's to another year! Thank you for all your kind comments and support that you've given me over my stay in the blog-o-sphere. I'm looking forward to what the 2016 year has to bring!

    1. Wow, when you say half a decade, it sounds much more official!

Awwww, your comment is so nice. It's always nice when silent readers come out of the woodwork. Sometimes I forgot that their are people reading who aren't commenting.

      Thanks for being lovely!

    1. Thank you so much for the well-wishes! I still have days where I definetly feel insecure about my stats, but overall I'm in a pretty good place.

  5. CONGRATS ON 5 YEARS!! SQUEEE THAT IS SO AMAZING AND WONDERFUL AND OMG GO YOU!! I shall be 5 years in May *gulps* Which is daunting. And I mean, my blog is growing quite a lot, but I'm still way under what a lot of blogs have who are half my blogging age. But bah. Whatever. It's the journey and the fun that counts, right?! ;D

But ANYWAY. I hope this is only the beginning of maaaany more years because I do love your blog! I need to get over here to read more often because you always have the best quality content. <3

    1. THANK YOU! I though that our blogs were pretty close in age, because I remember discovering Notebook Sisters shortly after I first started blogging.

It makes my day to hear you say that you enjoy my comment. It reaffirms my own confidence in my blog:)

  7. Wow!! You've been going at this for 5 years!! That's amazing, Sunny. :D I think I've shared my blogging story with you before at some point, but I'd be happy to share it again.

I started when my father went on a mission-trip to Kenya, Africa. He would blog about his experiences there & I would write (on personal blog) about my experiences back home. It was like we were comparing notes about our days apart! It was a sweet way that we bonded...
And then, the next year, our entire family moved to Kenya! So the blog turned into a way for me to share my experiences with all of my friends & family back in the U.S. I treated it almost like an online journal, so the entries were very emotional & heartfelt.
And when my family completed our time there, and we moved back, I stopped blogging for a few months because I felt like I had run out of things to say. But then I discovered NaNoWriMo and book blogs, & I knew I needed to try it... So that was start Plottinger Twist! :D <3

Congrats on Splash of Ink turning five!! May it grow ever larger & its ink never run dry!! <3 <3 <3

    1. Thanks for sharing your story again. It's one of the most interesting that I've heard:)

Also, I love what you said about its ink never running dry. So poetic!

    2. Thank you for letting me share it! (I just remembered that I shared it with you during the blogger spotlight!! I was sure I had talked with you about it at some point! I'm so forgetful sometimes... Lol!)

Oh, I've been reading some Dickens & Shakespeare lately, and I think it's gone to my head a bit! Hehe... But I'm quite glad you liked it! <3

  8. Wow, congratulations! 5 years is such an accomplishment. (Also I could have sworn I left a comment much earlier, but apparently my faulty memory is as faulty as ever, so apologies for the late congrats). Here's to another amazing year in 2016!

  9. HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love SOI, and am always so glad to be here (even though I'm normally about two weeks late ... oops!).

Congrats on getting to five! That really is a milestone. I know a lot of bloggers who are one or two so it's nice to see proper "old-timers". I'm coming up to four (next month) which I can't believe!
